James Gunn Discusses Shelved Guardians of the Galaxy Spin-Offs

The former Marvel director revealed three unproduced projects, but their future remains uncertain as he now leads DC Studios.

James Gunn disclosed that Marvel considered three Guardians of the Galaxy spin-offs: a Ravagers TV series, a Legendary Star-Lord project, and a Rocket & Groot storyline, the latter of which became central to Guardians Vol. 3.
Gunn confirmed he will no longer direct any Guardians projects but may still be credited as a producer if new installments arise.
The future of these spin-offs is unclear, with no official announcements from Marvel and the studio currently prioritizing fewer, higher-quality releases.
Several key cast members, including Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, and Bradley Cooper, have stepped away from their roles, though Chris Pratt has expressed willingness to reprise his as Star-Lord under the right conditions.
Marvel's current slate does not include any Guardians projects, but the characters could still appear in future MCU crossovers or unannounced movies scheduled for 2026.
