Jalisco Sets 14-Peso Transit Tariff as AMBA Fares Climb From January 1

Officials are pairing cost-based tariffs with targeted subsidies to blunt fare hikes.

Overview

  • Jalisco’s Technical Tariff Committee approved a general technical fare of 14 pesos for the next five years, establishing the legal benchmark for transit pricing.
  • Governor Pablo Lemus announced a 1,200 million peso fund to subsidize 3 pesos per trip so Tarjeta Única users pay 11 pesos rather than the 14-peso technical rate.
  • Registration for the new Tarjeta Única opens January 12 with card distribution from January 19, and the subsidized user fare begins in April 2026.
  • In Argentina’s AMBA, bus, train and subway fares rise on January 1, with the subte up 4.5% in January, another increase in February, and monthly updates from March tied to national inflation plus 1%; Red SUBE transfer discounts remain in place.
  • Bahía Blanca’s city council will hold a December 29 session to vote on the 2026 budget and consider a 30% bus-fare increase proposed after a municipal cost study.
