Jalandhar Court Orders Platforms to Remove Doctored Atishi Video Within 24 Hours

  • The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Jalandhar invoked Rule 3(d) of the IT Rules, 2021, directing Meta, X and Telegram to take down specified URLs and file a compliance report within 10 days.
  • The court also instructed that identical, mirror or derivative versions be blocked as they are identified by the state cyber crime department.
  • A technical probe began with AI-based screening using Gemini and was followed by a Punjab FSL audit that found the word “Guru” was never spoken in the clip and captions had been added.
  • An FIR registered on January 7 cites Sections 196(1) and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66(c) of the IT Act.
  • The complaint alleged the edited video was shared on X by Kapil Mishra, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Pargat Singh and Sukhbir Singh Badal, while AAP sought apologies and removals and the SGPC and Delhi Assembly Speaker registered formal reactions.
