Overview
- As of July 15, 2025, 15.67 crore out of 19.36 crore rural households (80.93%) have tap water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission
- Since its August 2019 launch with just 16.7% coverage (3.23 crore homes), the mission has added 12.43 crore new household connections
- The 2022 functionality assessment found 86% of taps working properly, with 85% receiving adequate quantity, 80% regular supply and 87% meeting quality standards
- The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation uses independent third-party sampling for assessments and has published district- and village-level connection data for transparency
- Central reviews, state-level workshops and field visits continue to address budget underutilization and resource challenges as rollout progresses
