Jaishankar, Lavrov Advance Deals Ahead of IndiaRussia Summit

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on November 17 to review cooperation and prepare for President Vladimir Putin’s expected visit to New Delhi for the 23rd annual summit in early December.
  • Both sides said multiple agreements and projects are close to finalisation across trade, energy, finance, defence, logistics and mobility, with announcements expected in the coming days.
  • Jaishankar reiterated India’s support for efforts to establish peace in the RussiaUkraine conflict and called for an early cessation of hostilities and a durable settlement.
  • The ministers agreed to coordinate within multilateral forums including the SCO, BRICS, the United Nations and the G20, with Jaishankar in Moscow to attend the SCO Council of Heads of Government on November 17–18.
  • Parallel to the Moscow talks, Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev met India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi to advance cooperation in the civilian maritime domain, including shipbuilding, port infrastructure, logistics, crew training and ocean research.
