Jaishankar Ends UAE Visit Focused on Security, Diaspora Safety, Energy

The visit signaled tighter India–UAE coordination to safeguard citizens during Gulf tensions that threaten energy flows.

Overview

  • During a two-day stop in Abu Dhabi on Saturday and Sunday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed to review the West Asia situation and its fallout.
  • An official UAE readout said the talks covered the repercussions of Iranian missile attacks that targeted the Emirates and other countries.
  • On Sunday, Jaishankar met President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings, and thanked the leadership for protecting the large Indian community, with Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan present at the meeting.
  • The discussions reaffirmed the India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and touched on energy and trade ties, with India noting risks from Strait of Hormuz disruptions that have squeezed shipping and lifted global fuel prices.
