JaipurMumbai Train Shooting Trial Resumes After Mental Fitness Ruling

Overview

  • On August 4, the Dindoshi Sessions Court declared Chetan Singh Chaudhary mentally fit and restarted the trial over the July 2023 JaipurMumbai train shooting.
  • Proceedings were stalled in March when Chaudhary was admitted to Thane Mental Hospital for psychosis evaluation and a review board cleared him for trial this month.
  • Former RPF constable Narendra Parmar described victims begging for mercy, including one who said “God and Allah are one” before being shot twice.
  • Chaudhary is charged under IPC section 302 for murder, section 153-A for promoting communal enmity and relevant provisions of the Railways Act.
  • The court has barred his transfer from Thane Central Jail without permission and will continue witness depositions in the coming days.
