Overview
- Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force traced Karan Aswani, alias Kamal Sindhi, to the United Arab Emirates where Abu Dhabi’s Interpol unit detained him and handed him to an AGTF team that brought him to Jaipur late Thursday night.
- The case stems from the August 2025 abduction of businessman Narendra Nath Datta when his family received a ransom call and police later rescued Datta and his driver and arrested three alleged accomplices.
- Police say the suspects posed as police officers, held victims at multiple locations including Agra, and used an Innova Crysta and a Swift in the operation that led to the ransom demand.
- Rajasthan Police records show Aswani has a criminal history dating back to 2000 with cases including murder, rioting, assault, extortion and prior kidnapping-related charges and investigators say the probe points to links with an organised syndicate.
- Aswani is now in Rajasthan Police custody and will face legal proceedings while investigators continue technical and international enquiries that could produce further arrests and evidence against the wider network.
