Almeida set a heavyweight UFC record with a control time of 21 minutes and 10 seconds, the most control time in a UFC fight in 16 years.
Despite giving up 30 pounds weight difference to his opponent, Almeida managed to dominate Lewis through his superior technique in wrestling and grappling.
Lewis, who holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history, has now lost five of his last seven fights.
In the post-match interview, Almeida called out former UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane and proposed that their bout could take place in Gane's home country - France.
