Jagan Leads Narsipatnam Protest as YSRCP Launches 1-Crore Signature Drive Against PPP Plan for 10 Medical Colleges

The Naidu administration cites funding limits to justify building the remaining government medical colleges through PPP.

Overview

  • On October 9, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led a rally at the semi-finished Narsipatnam Medical College in Anakapalli district to oppose the state's plan to develop 10 government medical colleges via PPP.
  • YSRCP said it will run Rachabanda outreach from October 10 to November 22, hold constituency-level dharnas on October 28 and district actions on November 12, and submit a one-crore-signature petition to the Governor after moving papers through constituencies and districts on November 23–24.
  • State Information and Public Relations Minister K. Parthasarathy stated that 10 of the 17 centrally sanctioned colleges will be taken up in two PPP phases, noting only seven were completed earlier.
  • Addressing supporters, Jagan alleged the PPP move amounts to privatisation that would price out poor students and patients, claimed total seats could reach 4,910 with 2,360 free under the prior plan, and accused the government of halting construction.
  • TDP leader N. Anand Babu accused Jagan of inciting unrest and pointed to fiscal strain, while Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employees handed petitions to Jagan during the visit seeking support for the plant.
