Ryan Nielsen, former Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator, has been hired as the new defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Nielsen replaces Mike Caldwell, who was fired after the Jaguars ended the season with a disappointing late-season collapse, losing five of their last six games.
Under Nielsen's leadership, the Falcons' defense improved significantly, finishing in the top 10 in the NFL in passing, third down and red zone.
The Falcons also doubled their sack total under Nielsen, going from 21 in 2022 to 42 last season.
Nielsen's hiring comes as the Jaguars seek to improve their defense, which played a significant role in the team's late-season collapse.
