Overview

  • Tim Heaphy said the still-unnamed practice will open in January and provide full-service investigations and trial work.
  • The team includes former prosecutors David Harbach and Thomas Windom, who helped secure federal indictments of Donald Trump in the documents and 2020 election cases.
  • Heaphy previously served as lead investigative counsel for the House Jan. 6 committee and is departing Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
  • House Judiciary Committee Republicans ordered Smith to appear for a deposition on Dec. 17 as part of their Arctic Frost inquiry, and House Republicans referred Windom to the Justice Department in November.
  • Smith ended the Trump cases after the 2024 election under DOJ policy against prosecuting a sitting president, and the Trump Justice Department has since criticized the probes and removed career personnel involved.
