Overview

• Emmy-nominated actor Jack Lowden has been cast as detective Bernie Gunther in the adaptation of Philip Kerr’s Berlin Noir novels.
• The drama will begin with Metropolis, Kerr’s 1928-set origin story that follows Gunther’s first assignment on the elite Berlin Murder Squad.
• Oscar-winning screenwriter Peter Straughan will adapt the novel, serve as showrunner and executive produce the series.
• BAFTA nominee Tom Shankland will direct episodes and executive produce alongside Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone banner.
• The project is in early development, with no production start date or release window confirmed, and is slated to shoot entirely in Berlin.
