Overview

  • Adnan Menderes Airport resumed operations at 21:50 local time after a six-hour shutdown prompted by dense smoke and strong winds from the Seferihisar blaze.
  • More than 50,000 residents from 41 settlements in Seferihisar, Menderes and nearby districts have been evacuated to safer areas as flames swept through forested zones.
  • Emergency services deployed over 625 personnel alongside six helicopters, 46 fire engines, nine bulldozers and 13 water-supply vehicles in the ongoing containment effort.
  • Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced the arrest of one individual accused of intentionally starting a forest fire by setting their own home ablaze.
  • Authorities warn that sustained high temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds will heighten the risk of new outbreaks and keep evacuation orders in place.
