Ivory Coast Ruling Party Poised for Big Parliamentary Majority on Early Results

Low turnout after an opposition boycott raises fresh questions about the vote’s competitiveness.

Overview

  • The electoral commission reported provisional turnout at 32.34 percent, down from 37.88 percent in 2021.
  • Early results released for around 100 of 255 seats show the RHDP leading broadly and on track for a large majority.
  • RHDP candidates posted near-unanimous scores in northern strongholds, including 98.95 percent in Bouaké, 99.92 percent in Korhogo, and 100 percent in Boundiali and Odienné.
  • Results from Abidjan are still pending, with close attention on races involving National Assembly speaker Adama Bictogo in Yopougon and defence minister Téné Birahima Ouattara in Abobo.
  • Despite the PPA-CI boycott led by Laurent Gbagbo, about 20 of its members stood as independents.
