Ivalis Meza Gonzalez Pleads to Obstruction as DWI Charge Is Dismissed

Deferred adjudication places her on nine months of probation with a chance to avoid a conviction.

Overview

  • Judge Alfredo Ximenez accepted a no-contest plea to obstruction of a highway and ordered a $1,000 fine, nine months of probation and 24 hours of community service.
  • State transportation records show a blood alcohol concentration of 0.169 at the July stop, more than twice Texas’s 0.08 legal limit.
  • The judge said the evidence would have been sufficient to find her guilty of the original DWI charge.
  • The case was prosecuted by Atascosa County assistant Jonathan Fischer after Bexar County DA Joe Gonzales recused himself over ties to her family, and local limits on such plea deals do not bind a pro-tem prosecutor.
  • A DPS effort to suspend her license failed when the arresting officer missed a hearing, and she has since been reinstated to council committees and seated on the Bexar Central Appraisal District board.
