Overview

  • IU Bloomington will phase out more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs this year as part of a statewide review that eliminated 75 programs, suspended 101, and slated 232 for merger.
  • House Enrolled Act 1001 requires public colleges to average at least 10 graduates for associate degrees, 15 for bachelor’s, 7 for master’s, and 3 for doctorates over three years or seek commission approval.
  • Six public institutions voluntarily submitted over 400 programs for elimination, suspension, or consolidation, accounting for nearly 19 percent of all degree offerings in Indiana.
  • A two-year tuition freeze through summer 2027 and a $100 million budget realignment accompany the academic cuts to stabilize funding and shift resources toward in-demand fields.
  • Current students in affected programs will complete their studies through teach-out plans while the Indiana Commission for Higher Education issues final program rulings on July 24.
