ITBP to Set Up 10 All-Women Border Posts on the LAC

The move reflects a broader modernisation push featuring forward deployment, new training modules, extra bases.

Overview

  • ITBP Director General Praveen Kumar announced the all-women posts during the force’s 64th Raising Day parade.
  • The first two posts will be established at Lukung in Ladakh and Thangi in Himachal Pradesh, with eight more to follow.
  • Forward-deployed border outposts now total 215, up from 180 under the post-2020 forwardisation plan.
  • The force plans 41 additional forward bases to strengthen security and coordination along the IndiaChina frontier.
  • A 2023 approval for seven new battalions and a sector office—about 9,400 personnel—supports the expansion, alongside reorganised training and five new skilling modules including mountain warfare and tactical survival.
