Overview
- Italy’s competition authority, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, opened a formal probe into easyJet’s website and app booking flow on Tuesday, May 26.
- The regulator alleges easyJet showed only an average price for checked baggage and made round-trip baggage and sports-equipment purchases the default option, which may hide the true per-leg cost.
- AGCM says one-way travellers seeking luggage were required to override the default and interrupt the booking process, a step many users might not notice or complete.
- easyJet said it is aware of the proceedings, will fully cooperate with the authority, and believes its practices comply with consumer law.
- The investigation follows prior high-profile airline enforcement by AGCM, could lead to required UX and pricing-display fixes or fines, and may change how low-cost carriers present optional fees to customers.
