Overview

  • AIL will operate a free helpline on June 21 with 40 hematologists available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to advise patients and caregivers.
  • Nationwide initiatives include Sognando Itaca sailing therapy sessions and local fundraising events organized by 83 AIL sections and 17,000 volunteers.
  • Blood cancers account for about 32,000 new Italian cases each year, mostly in those over 65, and present with vague symptoms like unexplained fever, weakness and weight loss.
  • Breakthrough therapies such as CAR-T cells, bispecific antibodies and targeted oral drugs are increasingly supplanting chemotherapy and have contributed to raising recovery prospects to 70 percent.
  • Since its founding in 1969, AIL has invested over €20 million annually in research, patient support and awareness campaigns to promote early diagnosis and improve care.
