Italy Sets 24-Hour Rail Strike for Oct. 2–3, Disrupting Regional and Long-Distance Services

Carriers outline peak-hour guarantees plus refund policies to guide passengers.

Overview

  • Si Cobas has called a nationwide rail stoppage from 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, to 8:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.
  • Personnel from Gruppo FS operators, including Trenitalia, Trenord and Trenitalia Tper, are involved, with widespread cancellations and timetable changes expected.
  • Essential services are slated in peak windows on weekdays from 06:00–09:00 and 18:00–21:00, and on holidays from 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00, with guaranteed-train lists posted on official sites and apps.
  • Trains already moving at the start of the strike may continue only if arrival is within one hour of the start time; otherwise they can terminate at an intermediate station.
  • Trenitalia allows refunds or rebooking, with Frecce and Intercity tickets refundable up to departure and regional tickets refundable until 24:00 the day before, while a parallel 24-hour bus-sector strike on Oct. 3 could also cut scheduled services.
