Italy Sets 2026 Motorway Toll Rise Averaging 1.5% After Court Ruling

The transport ministry attributes the increases to an October decision by the Constitutional Court.

Overview

  • From January 1, 2026, motorway tolls will increase by an average 1.5% for concessionaires with Economic‑Financial Plan updates in progress, in line with programmed inflation.
  • No tariff changes are planned for Concessioni del Tirreno (A10/A12), IvreaTorinoPiacenza (A5/A21) and Strada dei Parchi, while Salerno‑Pompei‑Napoli is granted a 1.925% increase.
  • Autostrada del Brennero is scheduled for a 1.46% adjustment, and other listed operators generally align at 1.5% according to the ministry’s summary.
  • The ministry says the Constitutional Court’s October 14 ruling nullified efforts to freeze tariffs pending new concession plans.
  • Ruling no. 147 struck down 2020–2023 postponements of toll updates, and the Court noted CIPE and ART measures could manage tariffs while warning that failing to adjust risks undercutting maintenance, efficiency and safety.
