Italy Opens 2026/27 School Enrolment as Four-Year Tech-Professional Pathways Expand Nationwide

Families apply on the Unica portal using digital ID, selecting up to three schools under published criteria that do not reward early filing.

Overview

  • Registration runs from January 13 to February 14 online for state primary and secondary schools, with paper applications still required for preschools and for schools in Aosta Valley, Trento and Bolzano.
  • The 4+2 technical-professional offer grows by 532 newly authorized pathways, taking four-year programs to more than 700 institutions and strengthening ties with ITS Academies and local employers, including 90 new courses in Campania with 50 in Naples province.
  • Applications allow three ranked choices and are evaluated by schools using objective, pre-published criteria, while the ministry discourages lotteries and entrance tests and enables status tracking via Unica and the IO app.
  • New guidelines introduce optional Latin in middle schools and basic computer science in primary grades, and the Liceo del Made in Italy is included among this year’s enrolment options.
  • For 2026/27 the revised maturità keeps two written exams and reduces the oral to four subjects, and students who refuse to sit the oral will fail.
