Italy Faces 24-Hour Strike for Gaza on Monday, Disrupting Trains, Transit and Ports

Base unions say the mobilisation shows solidarity with Palestinians, supporting the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Overview

  • USB leads a national walkout on 22 September with Cub, Sgb, Adl Varese and Usi-Cit across public and private sectors including logistics, schools and universities.
  • Rail staff at FS/Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord will strike, with regional services guaranteed only 06:00–09:00 and 18:00–21:00 and operators warning of cancellations outside these windows.
  • Local public transport will run in legal guarantee periods, with Rome services assured until 8:29 and 17:00–19:59 and Milan until 8:45 and 15:00–18:00, and reduced or stopped elsewhere.
  • Demonstrations are planned in at least 75 cities, with port actions flagged in Genoa, Trieste, Ancona and Civitavecchia and activists in Tuscany calling to block the A1 at Calenzano.
  • Police have activated security plans, including reinforced deployments in Bologna, while the air sector is excluded on Monday and further strikes are scheduled through late September, October and November.
