Italy Confirms September Transport Strikes, With National Rail Halt on Sept. 4–5

Operators have posted guaranteed service lists following union calls that extend disruption to aviation as well as local transit in September.

Overview

  • The nationwide rail strike runs from 21:00 on Thursday, Sept. 4, to 18:00 on Friday, Sept. 5, covering both passenger and freight services and called by the Sindacato Generale di Base and the PdM/PdB assembly of the FS group.
  • Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord have published guaranteed medium- and long‑distance trains, with operators urging travelers to check schedules, rebooking and refund policies.
  • Air transport faces two national actions: on Sept. 6 EasyJet and Volotea staff strike all day and Wizz Air staff from 12:00 to 16:00, alongside ground‑handling and security walkouts at multiple airports, while a Cub Trasporti‑called strike returns on Sept. 26 with further Volotea participation.
  • Rome’s Atac workers plan four‑hour stoppages on Sept. 4 from 08:30 to 12:30 and on Sept. 18 from 20:30 to 00:30, affecting buses, trams and metro services operated directly by Atac.
  • Further actions include Moby workers in Livorno on Sept. 6, citywide local transit strikes on Sept. 8 in parts of Sicily and Savona, a Sept. 15 wave affecting Umbria, parts of Tuscany and Ravenna with a separate Calabria rail stoppage from 09:00 to 17:00, and a national rail freight strike by Captrain Italia and GTS Rail from 16:01 on Sept. 16 to 16:00 on Sept. 17.
