Italy Applies Relaxed Cabin Liquid Rules at Five Major Airports

ENAC said remaining airports will maintain the 100-milliliter limit until they install certified CT scanners as part of a nationwide phased rollout.

Overview

  • ECAC’s July 25 decision allows liquids in containers over 100 milliliters at airports equipped with certified smart-security CT scanners.
  • On July 27 ENAC confirmed that Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Bologna and Turin have activated the relaxed liquid rules.
  • Each of the five hubs already operates next-generation CT scanners capable of analyzing liquids in cabin baggage without requiring removal.
  • All other Italian airports continue enforcing the 100-milliliter container cap, one-liter bag requirement and removal during security checks until scanners are upgraded.
  • High acquisition and maintenance costs for certified scanners have driven a phased rollout focused on major hubs to uphold consistent security standards
