Italian Tourist Slashed in Random Manhattan Knife Attack

A 42-year-old visitor was injured in an unprovoked Midtown assault, with the suspect still at large as police seek public assistance.

Paolo Rech, an Italian engineering professor, was slashed in the hand by a woman wielding a knife on Madison Avenue Saturday morning.
The attack occurred near East 37th Street at approximately 10:40 a.m. and was described as unprovoked and random by authorities.
The suspect, a woman in her 30s wearing a blue jacket, purple sweater, and black pants, fled the scene and remains unidentified.
The victim, who declined hospital treatment and was assisted by EMS at the scene, praised New York police for their kindness and professionalism.
This incident follows another slashing of a Danish tourist earlier in the week, raising concerns about random violence targeting visitors in the city.
