Overview

  • Private summer centers now average 704 € per child each month while public full-time places run about 396 € per month according to the Osservatorio Nazionale Federconsumatori.
  • Year-on-year analysis shows full-time private weekly rates down 7% to 176 € but half-day slots rose to 120 € weekly, and public half-day fees climbed 5% to around 79 €.
  • Thematic programs offering English courses, arts workshops or sports training have become costlier, with average weekly fees up 3.4% to as much as 338 €.
  • Families are offsetting prohibitive prices by organizing “tate condivise,” rotating relatives and pooled babysitter arrangements for groups of up to four children.
  • Consumer groups warn that the government’s 60 million € summer-care fund is insufficient and experts are urging year-round school openings to ease working-family pressures.
