Overview
- The Procura di Pavia has opened an internal inquiry that is reconstituting 2007 lab work and interviewing original investigators and consultants to review analyses on Alberto Stasi’s bicycle pedals and other preserved material.
- The Reparto Investigazioni Scientifiche (RIS) of Parma told prosecutors that DNA extracts (eluiti) linked to imprint 33 and nail samples were disposed of in a collective smaltimento after Stasi’s conviction became definitive, and the unit did not produce a specific disposal verbale.
- Investigators say electrophoresis runs on the pedals produced a highly cellular profile attributed to Chiara Poggi on one day and clear negative results the next day, and prosecutors say the later negative runs were not transmitted to the judicial authority at the time.
- Files now in prosecutors’ hands include internal RIS emails in which senior officers pressed subordinates about attributing a partial shoeprint, and a 13‑page unsigned personological report bearing a criminologist’s name who denies authoring it.
- Andrea Sempio is formally under investigation and prosecutors intend to seek his referral to trial, while Stasi’s lawyers say their review has uncovered material they call favourable to Stasi; missing eluiti and gaps in raw data limit what new testing can establish and may shape any revision request.
