• In her Aug. 2 hearing, Lorena Venier admitted she sedated her son with a tranquilliser, injected him with insulin taken from her hospital and then smothered and strangled him before dismembering the body.
• Investigators say Venier used a hacksaw to cut her 35-year-old son into three parts, covered the remains in quicklime and concealed them in a bin at the family home in Gemona del Friuli.
• Mailyn Castro Monsalvo, the victim’s partner, initially assisted in the killing plan before contacting emergency services on July 31 and leading police to the remains.
• The couple’s six-month-old daughter has been placed under the care of social services in Gemona del Friuli as authorities secure her welfare.
• Magistrates have convened forensic experts to conduct a post-mortem examination and ordered psychiatric assessments for both defendants ahead of formal charges.
