Overview

  • June registrations fell to 132,191 units, marking a 17.4% year-on-year decline driven largely by the expiration of June 2024 EV incentives.
  • First-half 2025 registrations totaled 854,690, down 3.6% from the same period last year and remaining well below pre-pandemic levels.
  • Domestic car production collapsed by 43% in 2024 to 310,000 units, trimming Italy’s share of European output to just over 2%.
  • Mild and full hybrids accounted for 44.2% of first-half registrations, while rechargeable vehicles (BEV and PHEV) reached only 10.5% of the market.
  • An aging national fleet averaging 13 years old and an underdeveloped charging network continue to hamper the transition to lower-emission vehicles.
