Overview

  • April production rose 0.3 percent year-on-year, ending more than two years of consecutive declines and marking a 1.0 percent seasonally adjusted gain from March
  • Energy supply and wood, paper and printing led the rebound with year-on-year gains of 4.3 percent and 4.7 percent respectively, while electronics output grew 3.3 percent
  • Pharmaceuticals and transportation equipment remained weak, falling 11 percent and 9.5 percent year-on-year
  • Output for January through April remains 1.2 percent below the same period in 2024, underscoring lingering weakness in overall industrial activity
  • Confcommercio’s Ufficio Studi estimates the modest uptick could contribute to up to 0.8 percent GDP growth for Italy in 2025
