Italian Football Federation Endorses Milan-Como Serie A Match in Perth

San Siro’s hosting of the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony has prompted the federation to seek exception-based approvals for the Feb. 7-8 fixture relocation.

Overview

  • On July 10 the FIGC board formally backed relocating the Serie A derby between AC Milan and Como to Perth for the weekend of Feb. 7-8, 2026.
  • Organizers must secure sign-off from FIFA, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and Football Australia under regulations that normally bar domestic fixtures abroad.
  • San Siro is unavailable because it will host the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on the Friday of that weekend.
  • The FIGC argues UEFA could grant an exception given the request’s unique circumstances, and FIFA has established a working group to explore potential rule adaptations.
  • The proposal follows three failed La Liga bids in 2018, 2019 and 2024 to stage regular-season matches in the United States.
