The agency is negotiating with Italian authorities to open some teams’ bags on arrival to enable earlier, targeted screening.

Doping bei Olympia im Visier

Overview

  • ITA director Benjamin Cohen confirmed talks with Italian Customs and the Justice Ministry, with an agreement still being worked out.
  • The planned measure would permit selective inspections of some delegation luggage upon entry to Italy before competition begins.
  • Curling, ice hockey, skiing and biathlon will conduct testing under their own federations during the Games rather than through the ITA.
  • Cohen said more than 80% of Olympic federations already work with the ITA and he urged broader cooperation across sports.
  • He proposed discussing with WADA a shift from about 30 accredited labs to a smaller number of better resourced superlabs to strengthen detection.
