The film is based on Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel, with Lively playing the lead role of Lily Bloom, a woman navigating a complex love life and personal history.
Justin Baldoni, who also stars in the film, is the director. The cast also includes Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, and Hasan Minhaj.
Production of the film had to pause during the Hollywood strikes in 2023, which may have contributed to the delay in release.
Despite some controversy around the book's portrayal of abusive relationships and the age difference between the characters and the actors, Hoover has defended the choices made for the film.
