Isuzu D‑Max and MU‑X Add 2.2‑Litre Diesel, Drop Manuals as Prices Rise

The update targets lower CO2 exposure under Australia’s NVES.

Overview

  • Isuzu Ute Australia confirmed a Euro‑5 2.2‑litre RZ4F turbo‑diesel with 120kW/400Nm and an Aisin eight‑speed automatic, replacing the 1.9‑litre in selected D‑Max and MU‑X grades.
  • The 3.0‑litre 4JJ3 remains on sale with newly added idle stop‑start, delivering lower claimed fuel use and CO2, with D‑Max economy quoted as low as 6.3L/100km.
  • Braked towing is now rated at 3500kg across the range, and gross combination mass increases by about 500kg to 6000kg in D‑Max 4×4 autos and 5900kg in MU‑X.
  • Line‑ups are simplified with all manual transmissions discontinued and some variants deleted, with the 2.2‑litre offered in D‑Max SX and X‑Rider and MU‑X LS‑M, LS‑U and LS‑T.
  • Pricing and specs are set, with the D‑Max starting from $36,200 before on‑road costs and most grades up $1500–$2500, with orders opening 1 October and showroom arrivals in October.
