- About 6.4 million women aged 16–75—31.9%—report physical or sexual violence since age 16, including 18.8% physical, 23.4% sexual, and 5.7% rape or attempted rape.
- Partners are responsible for 63.8% of rapes—59.1% ex-partners and 4.7% current partners—while strangers account for 6.9%.
- Overall victimization in the past five years is broadly unchanged from 2014, but among women 16–25 it rose to 37.6% from 28.4%, with sexual violence up to 30.8% from 17.7%.
- Only 10.5% of victims reported partner or ex-partner abuse in the last five years, and satisfaction with police among those who reported fell to 38.2% from 48.7% in 2014.
- Istat for the first time records incapacitation rape affecting about 1% of women, mainly attributed to ex-partners (38.9%), acquaintances (35.3%), and friends (23.4%).
