ISSSTE Starts Floor-by-Floor Demolition of Dr. Gonzalo Castañeda Hospital in Tlatelolco

This cautious 44-million-peso teardown paves the way for a modern ISSSTE medical unit designed to serve more than 100,000 beneficiaries.

Overview

  • ISSSTE launched the controlled demolition on August 14 with an investment of 44,082,961 pesos to dismantle the long-abandoned hospital floor by floor.
  • Civil-protection measures have been implemented to safeguard nearby residents and the adjacent IMSS facility throughout the demolition phase.
  • An accompanying ISSSTE “ECOS for Well-Being” fair provided health screenings, vaccinations and issued 308 permanent beneficiary ID cards to the community.
  • The future medical unit will add specialties aligned with demographic and epidemiological needs and serve roughly 100,408 derechohabientes in Tlatelolco and north Mexico City.
  • This project marks the first phase of a broader ISSSTE infrastructure expansion that includes a high-specialty regional hospital in Oaxaca and family medicine units in Tamaulipas.
