ISSSTE Launches National Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Plan, First Procedures Start Sept. 24

The program’s early phase targets 150 oncology cases this year to cut recovery times, freeing beds.

Overview

  • Six tertiary hospitals will operate Da Vinci systems: CMN 20 de Noviembre (CDMX), Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Torreón, Hospital General de Saltillo, Hospital Regional ISSSTE de León, Hospital Regional 1° de Octubre (CDMX) and Hospital Regional Lic. Adolfo López Mateos (CDMX).
  • Saltillo begins on Sept. 24, CMN 20 de Noviembre starts on Oct. 1 with a new Da Vinci Xi replacing its prior unit, and Torreón follows on Oct. 15, with León, 1° de Octubre and López Mateos to come next.
  • The systems will focus on oncologic procedures involving kidney, esophagus, bladder and prostate, with select gynecologic cases, and each operation remains fully controlled by a surgeon at a console.
  • ISSSTE projects benefits for about 3.5 million beneficiaries and has scheduled at least 150 cancer surgeries before the end of the year.
  • One outlet reports an investment above 158 million pesos for the rollout, while ISSSTE has urged suppliers to meet obligations after noting some delivery delays.
