ISRO Set for Sunday Launch of Record-Weight CMS-03 on LVM3-M5

The LVM3 flight targets broader coverage across India with reach over nearby ocean regions.

Overview

  • Liftoff is scheduled for November 2 at 5:26 PM IST from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
  • CMS-03 weighs about 4,410 kg and would be the heaviest communication satellite launched from Indian soil into a GTO.
  • The LVM3-M5 rocket is fully assembled with CMS-03, positioned on the second launch pad, with countdown and pre-launch checks reported in place.
  • CMS-03 is a multi-band platform intended to enhance TV, mobile, VSAT, and maritime links across the Indian landmass, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
  • LVM3 is a three-stage heavy-lift vehicle (S200 strap-ons, L110 core, C25 cryogenic upper stage) on its fifth operational flight, following the Chandrayaan-3 launch; ISRO’s heavier GSAT-11 (5,854 kg) flew in 2018 on Europe’s Ariane-5.
