The announcement aims to grow India’s Venus science community in advance of a 2028 LVM-3 departure.

Overview

  • ISRO’s Announcement of Opportunity invites Indian researchers to analyse archival data from past Venus missions in support of the Venus Orbiter Mission’s science goals.
  • Proposals are due November 15, 2025, and may come from individuals or teams at Indian institutions including universities, colleges, planetaria and government organisations.
  • Principal investigators must have at least four years of service remaining before superannuation, and selected projects are expected to be completed within three years.
  • Research topics span Venusian morphology and topography, subsurface studies, geological mapping and mineralogy, atmospheric structure and dynamics, ionospheric processes and solar‑wind interaction, and modelling of the atmosphere and ionosphere.
  • ISRO targets an Earth departure on March 29, 2028 and Venus arrival on July 19, 2028 using LVM‑3, and media reports say 12 payloads are shortlisted and the mission cost is approved at Rs 1,236 crore with Rs 824 crore for the spacecraft.
