Overview

  • ISRO said IADT-01 validated the end-to-end parachute-based deceleration sequence designed to return the Gaganyaan crew module safely to sea.
  • The joint exercise involved the Indian Air Force, DRDO, the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, rehearsing drop and maritime recovery operations off Sriharikota in the Bay of Bengal.
  • An IAF Chinook released a crew-module mass simulator, with drogue, pilot and three main parachutes deploying in sequence to achieve a planned splashdown.
  • ISRO will analyse test data to plan further air-drop trials and Test Vehicle missions, with TV-D2 and the uncrewed G1 flight next in line and G1 intended to carry the half-humanoid Vyommitra in December.
  • ISRO leadership reports about 80% of roughly 10,000 planned tests completed, with the remainder targeted by March 2026 and a first crewed mission aimed for 2027.
