Israel's Euro 2024 Qualifying Home Games Moved to Hungary Due to Security Concerns Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict

UEFA chooses Hungary's Pancho Arena as neutral ground due to Israeli conflict; Israel currently stands third in Group I, never before qualified for a Euros tournament.

  • Israel's next two home Euro 2024 qualification matches against Switzerland and Romania, originally set for the Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, will now take place in Hungary due to security concerns stemming from the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
  • The matches will be held at the Pancho Aréna stadium, near the home village of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. This venue has been a common replacement site for UEFA-organised matches since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
  • This scheduling change leaves the Israeli national team two games behind in its race against Switzerland and Romania to claim the top two spots in the Group I standings.
  • Israel's game against Kosovo, originally set for October 15 but postponed because of the security situation, is now scheduled for November 12th.
  • Despite currently ranking third in Group I, if Israel does not secure a top two position, they will enter the qualifying playoffs in March, with a chance to be part of the 24-team Euro 2024 lineup hosted by Germany.
