Israeli Strike on Lebanon’s Ein el-Hilweh Camp Kills at Least 13, Testing Fragile Truces

Lebanese authorities call it the worst breach of the 2024 ceasefire as Israel and Hamas offer conflicting accounts of the target.

Overview

  • Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported at least 13 dead and several wounded, urged blood donations, and said ambulances continued evacuations from the camp near Sidon.
  • State media said a drone hit a car by the Khalid bin Al-Walid Mosque and additional missiles struck the mosque and a nearby center, while reporters were blocked from parts of the site.
  • The IDF said it targeted a Hamas training compound used to plan attacks, a claim Hamas rejected as false, saying the strike hit a civilian sports field with no military presence.
  • Hours later, an Israeli strike in the southern village of Tiri killed one person and wounded 11, including students on a passing bus, as Israel also announced attacks on Hezbollah-linked sites.
  • Israeli raids in Gaza on Nov. 19–20 killed at least 25–33 people, according to medics and officials, in one of the deadliest surges since the October ceasefire and a further strain on the truce.
