Overview

  • On July 21, the Israeli military launched three attacks on WHO’s staff residence and main warehouse in Deir al-Balah, causing fires and extensive damage.
  • For the first time, tanks advanced into southern and eastern parts of Deir al-Balah under the belief that hostages may be held there.
  • Women and children among WHO families were forced to walk toward al-Mawasi, while male staff and relatives were handcuffed, stripped, interrogated at gunpoint and screened.
  • Out of four initially detained (two WHO staff and two family members), three were released and one aid worker remains in Israeli custody.
  • Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has demanded the immediate release of the detainee and urgent guarantees for the safety of all WHO personnel.
