Israeli Actress Maisa Abd Elhadi Indicted for Allegedly Supporting Hamas Terror Attacks on Social Media; Citizenship Revocation Considered

Actress, known for role in "World War Z," indicted amid widespread clampdown on online support for Hamas; Elhadi also faces potential citizenship revocation for mocking victims of the October 7 Hamas massacre.

  • Israeli Actress Maisa Abd Elhadi, known for her role in "World War Z," has been indicted on charges of identifying with a terror organization and incitement to terror, following her social media posts that allegedly supported Hamas' October 7 massacre.
  • Interior Minister Moshe Arbel has requested an investigation into whether Elhadi's Israeli citizenship can be revoked due to her posts. The possibility of citizenship revocation is pending clarity around whether Elhadi holds citizenship or residency rights in another country.
  • Elhadi's contentious social media activity included Instagram posts featuring images of 85-year-old Yaffa Adar being taken hostage by Hamas, accompanied by laughing emojis. Elhadi also reportedly celebrated the breach of Israel’s security border by Hamas forces, referencing the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
  • In parallel to Elhadi's case, a widespread police crackdown is ongoing against alleged online support for Hamas following the October 7 attacks. As of last week, more than 100 people have been detained and 24 have been indicted on related charges.
  • Along with her online activity, Elhadi is also accused of celebrating the October 7 attack in a WhatsApp group, expressing joy about the kidnapping of IDF soldiers and civilians. Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against acts of incitement to violence and support of terrorism.
