Israel Weighs Striking Iran’s Fordow Facility With or Without U.S. Support

Officials warn they could dispatch elite commandos or cut power to Fordow if Washington declines to strike with B-2 bunker-busters.

Overview

  • Israel has requested U.S. B-2 stealth bombers armed with 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs to eliminate the deeply buried Fordow enrichment site.
  • In the absence of American assistance, Israel’s elite Air Force commando unit 5101 (Shaldag) remains on standby to infiltrate the mountain-buried complex and plant explosives.
  • Operational planners are also considering cyber intrusions and targeted power cuts to disable uranium centrifuges at Fordow.
  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel holds additional covert options to neutralize the facility independently if needed.
  • Destroying Fordow is regarded as crucial to halting Iran’s nuclear program and could help de-escalate and potentially end regional hostilities.
