Israel Strikes Gaza After Reported Breach as IDF Details Vast Hamas Tunnel Network

Israeli strikes followed what the military called an armed breach of the ceasefire on a humanitarian road.

Overview

  • Health officials in Gaza reported between 14 and 21 people killed in multiple strikes, including a blast that hit a car in Gaza City’s Rimal neighborhood and strikes on homes in Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat, while Israel said the attacks answered gunfire from a gunman who crossed into an Israeli-held area.
  • The IDF said roughly 15 fighters surfaced from tunnel openings in eastern Rafah this week, with six killed and five surrendering for Shin Bet interrogation, and later reported five additional suspects killed during follow-up sweeps.
  • Military footage released this week showed a Rafah tunnel system the IDF described as over 7 kilometers long, about 25 meters deep, and containing around 80 rooms beneath civilian sites including a UNRWA compound, mosques, clinics, kindergartens, and schools.
  • The army said the complex housed command and weapons facilities used by senior Hamas operatives, naming Muhammad Shabana, and linked the site to where Lt. Hadar Goldin’s remains were held before their return earlier this month under a U.S.-brokered truce.
  • Israel’s military counted at least eight ceasefire violations in Gaza between November 13 and 21 and 32 since October 10, citing crossings toward IDF positions and gunfire incidents that have prompted retaliatory strikes.
