Israel Secures $536 Million Deal for Iron Beam Laser Defense System

The Iron Beam system, expected to be operational in 2025, will enhance Israel's multi-layered defense strategy with cost-effective laser technology.

Ministry of Defense has signed a contract with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems to expand production of the Iron Beam laser defense system.
The Iron Beam is designed to intercept aerial threats such as rockets, mortars, drones, and cruise missiles, complementing the existing Iron Dome system.
The system offers a significantly cheaper alternative to traditional interceptor missiles, with operational costs reduced to just the price of electricity needed to power the laser.
The Iron Beam is part of Israel's multi-layered defense approach, which also includes the Arrow and David's Sling systems, enhancing protection against threats from groups like Hezbollah and Hamas.
Despite its advantages, the system faces challenges in adverse weather conditions and requires precise targeting to be effective.
