Israel Says One Body Returned by Hamas Was Not a Hostage as Aid to Gaza Is Curbed

Disputed remains and restricted aid now test the ceasefire following the return of all living hostages.

Overview

  • Israeli authorities said forensic tests showed one of four bodies handed over Tuesday was not a hostage, bringing to eight the number of bodies received since the truce began.
  • Three others from the latest transfer were identified as Uriel Baruch, Tamir Nimrodi and Eitan Levi, after an earlier group included Guy Ilouz, Bipin Joshi, Daniel Peretz and Yossi Sharabi.
  • Israel notified the UN that only about 300 aid trucks would be allowed into Gaza today, roughly half the agreed daily target, with fuel limited to specific humanitarian needs and Rafah largely restricted.
  • The ceasefire’s first phase delivered the release of the last 20 living hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, while a Gaza hospital reported receiving 45 Palestinian bodies returned by Israel.
  • President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the truce could unravel without Hamas disarmament, as Hamas and the Red Cross said wreckage and access constraints complicate recovering remaining remains.
